PACAYA-SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE:
The protected Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve is located
250 miles (400 Km) by river from
Iquitos
and
is one of the most important areas of
biodiversity in the world, and a top
ecotourism destination. The largest reserve in Peru, it encompasses 5,139,680 acres, an area
twice the size of Yellowstone National Park; larger than the state of New Jersey in the United States. This
protected area contains natural lakes which are home to 250
species of fish as well as both pink and grey freshwater
dolphins. In the jungle and flooded forest of the reserve,
132 mammal species (13 of which are primates), 449 tropical
bird species, and 250 reptile and amphibian species have
been documented.

Map Of Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve
The reserve
is home to, and protects, nearly all the species native to
low lying jungle that are threatened with extinction. The large number of lakes, creeks, and swamps, the
large stands of unique untouched forest, and the rich
wildlife make the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve reserve an attractive destination for
sport fishing, bird watching, eco-tours, scientific
expeditions, and adventure travelers.
FLOATING MARKET OF BELÉN:
Just a few blocks from the Plaza de Armas down on the river
front is Belen,
Iquitos' floating neighborhood and
market. Almost as interesting as the jungle itself, Belen is
the center of an incredible variety of Amazon products;
tropical fruits, fish of all shapes and sizes, turtles,
birds, frogs and herbal medicines. Tourists will have the
opportunity to take one of the small canoe-taxis for a tour
of the waterways, some being paddled by small children eager
to practice their English.

CANOPY WALK:
The Canopy Walkway is an experience unequaled in the rainforest!
At a height of over 35 meters (115 feet) and extending for 500
meters (one-third of a mile), the Canopy Walkway provides a view
of the rainforest from the treetops, the best vantage point for
observing Amazon wildlife and vegetation. The Canopy Walkway is
accessible to all and requires no special skills or equipment.
The suspended walkway is spread between 14 of the area's largest
rainforest trees and is one of the longest canopy walkways in
the world.
Maintained by the Peruvian Foundation CONAPAC, the Canopy
Walkway has extended research into an area where little is known
and so much is left to be discovered
