A 5 day jungle camping tour in Iquitos Peru is designed as a deep Amazon experience, combining extended time in the rainforest with continuous camping and guided exploration. This format allows travelers to move beyond basic jungle access and experience multiple environments where wildlife activity is more dynamic.
Departing from Iquitos, the journey follows the Amazon River into remote tributaries such as Yanayacu, where camping creates a direct and uninterrupted connection to the rainforest. This tour is ideal for travelers seeking a more immersive and complete Amazon experience.
Your journey begins in Iquitos, where you’ll quickly transition from city to jungle. Traveling by boat along the Amazon River, you’ll pass local river communities and begin spotting wildlife almost immediately.
The day builds with your first hands-on experiences—visiting Monkey Island, observing pink river dolphins, and even swimming in the Amazon. As night falls, you’ll head into the jungle for a nocturnal hike, where the rainforest reveals an entirely different world.
Wake up to the sounds of the rainforest and head out early, when the jungle is most active. This is prime time for spotting birds, monkeys, and other wildlife along the riverbanks.
The day continues with classic Amazon experiences—navigating tributaries, piranha fishing, and exploring aquatic plant life like the massive Victoria Regia. In the evening, you’ll head out again by boat for a caiman spotting excursion, scanning the riverbanks for glowing eyes in the dark.
Today shifts into a more immersive phase of the journey. You’ll trek deeper into the rainforest, moving beyond the more accessible areas and into denser jungle terrain.
This is where you begin learning real jungle survival concepts—how to read the environment, identify key plants, and understand the ecosystem from a local perspective. By the afternoon, you’ll reach a remote location and set up camp at an elevated observation point in the jungle.
As night falls, you’ll experience the Amazon in its rawest form—sleeping under the canopy, surrounded by the sounds of the forest.
After waking up deep in the jungle, you’ll continue exploring surrounding areas, including lagoons and flooded forest zones known for high biodiversity.
Later, you’ll visit a local Amazonian community, gaining insight into how people live and adapt in this environment. This adds a human layer to the experience—understanding the jungle not just as an ecosystem, but as a way of life.
By evening, you’ll return closer to base and head out once more for a nighttime wildlife excursion.
Your final day begins with one last jungle hike, taking you to massive ancient trees like the Ceiba—some of the most impressive natural landmarks in the rainforest.
From there, you’ll continue with a final river excursion, often including a visit to a local tribe and one last look at the Amazon’s unique plant and wildlife life.
By afternoon, you’ll make your way back to Iquitos by boat, leaving the jungle behind—but with a completely different understanding of what it truly is.
