Overnight stay in the city of Cusco.

You'll need to wake up early, around 4:30 to 5:00 a.m., to fully enjoy this natural wonder. We will pick you up from your hotel and head south of the city of Cusco.

The first stretch will take about 1.5 hours until our first stop, near the district of Cusipata (3,310 meters above sea level), where you’ll enjoy a delicious breakfast at a local restaurant. We will then continue for about 1 more hour to reach Fulawasipata (4,660 meters above sea level), where you'll receive a briefing about the trek.

At the foot of the sacred Ausangate mountain, our hike begins. After about 2 hours of ascending, you’ll arrive at the Rainbow Mountain or Vinicunca (5,200 meters above sea level). Along the way, you’ll spot various South American camelids such as llamas, alpacas, and vicuñas. At the "Red Hill," you'll have time to rest, take in the breathtaking scenery, and capture the magnificent colors of Vinicunca: red, pink, turquoise, and yellow.

At the indicated time, you’ll hike back to Fulawasipata, where our vehicle will be waiting to take you to a restaurant for a revitalizing lunch. Return to Cusco is expected around 4:30 p.m.

FAQ

Your Questions, Answered

If your trip is within the next 90 days, we require 100% payment at the time of booking.
If you’re booking in advance, we request a 50% deposit and the remaining 50% is due 30 days before the tour starts.

Yes! Just let us know your preferred hotel category (tourist, superior, or luxury) and we’ll add it to your custom itinerary.

Absolutely. We can quote and personalize your trip for a private experience. Contact us and we’ll tailor everything to your needs.

We highly recommend having travel insurance that covers cancellations, medical emergencies, and travel delays—especially considering the altitude and changing weather.

Cusco is located at 3,400 meters (11,150 ft), so it’s important to acclimatize upon arrival. The Sacred Valley is lower (around 2,800 m), which makes it a great second-day destination. Machu Picchu is even lower at 2,430 m, so many travelers feel relief descending to that altitude.

• Rest and avoid physical exertion on your first day.
• Stay well-hydrated and avoid alcohol or heavy meals.
• Try coca tea or coca candies for relief.
• Ask your hotel or a pharmacy for oxygen or medication if needed.
• If you have any pre-existing health conditions, talk to your doctor before traveling.

We include the Expedition train, a comfortable tourist-class service. If you’d like to upgrade, we can quote options like Vistadome or the luxurious Hiram Bingham.

Expedition: Comfortable, scenic, budget-friendly.
Vistadome: Large panoramic windows, snacks, onboard service.
Hiram Bingham: Luxury train with gourmet meals, open bar, and exclusive service.

We pick up all guests from hotels in Cusco’s historic center. The exact pick-up time is confirmed the day before. As this is a group tour, there’s a 30-minute pick-up window while we collect all travelers.

Depending on your arrival time, we may be able to include a tour. However, we recommend keeping the afternoon free to acclimatize. Cusco's high altitude makes it important to rest, hydrate, and eat light upon arrival.
